An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Orthopaedic and Trauma Team to support the highest quality of care to our patients and we want you to join our team. 

Main duties of the job

  • Facilitate and manage patient transfers which may include internal and external transfers in a safe and professional manner.
  • Participate in all shift patterns to provide a 24 hour service where required which may include participation in an on call support system. 
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within their clinical areas, ensuring that any action plans to improve/maintain compliance are undertaken .
  • Adhere to and support team adherence to Infection control standards and policies.
  • Implement best practice in perioperative medicine to ensure that the patient achieves the highest level of care.
  • Undertake role specific activities including anaesthetic support, surgical support, Surgical First Assisting (if hold professional qualification) and post-operative care.
  • Assign clinical care requirements within work environment and space to others ensuring adequate supervision and support against session and patient acuity.
  • Support staff with in the theatre department to ensure that they are effective in undertaking their role ensuring efficient use of both theatre and personal time. 
  • Lead the perioperative team within theatre, taking responsibility for the day to day supervision of the clinical environment they have been allocated responsibility to.
  • Lead by example patient safety checklists including all stages of the local safety standards for invasive procedures (LOCsipps) safer surgery bundle.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with professional registration (NMC/HCPC registration)
  • Post registration qualification in specialists theatre area (Anaesthetics, Surgery, Recovery) or work based experience specific to role requirements
  • Healthcare related degree (or working towards)
  • Mentorship in Clinical Practice
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced Paediatric Life Support or Paediatric life support course (APLS/PLS)
  • Advanced Life Support/Immediate Life Support Qualification (ALS/ILS)
  • Leadership Qualification (ILM/Degree module/NHS Leadership Academy)

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to document patient information in a variety of methods including paper and electronic records
