Senior Staff Nurse, Emergency Department

Band 6

Job overview

It is an exciting time to join the Emergency Department at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital! We are pleased to announce an uplift in our staffing with the ability to expand our team significantly.

The post holder will be required to carry out a range of assigned tasks involving direct and indirect care for the benefit of the patient/client in accordance with agreed protocols.  The range of responsibilities will be in support of and supervised by a registered nurse, and will involve rotation as appropriate to the needs of the service in consultation with the post holder and in accordance with Local Service Agreements.

We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, experienced and skilled  Emergency Care Nurses to join our highly motivated team as a Band 6 staff nurse to join our growing team within our Emergency Department.

The successful candidate will be part of a fantastic team to provide clinical leadership within the Emergency Department. This includes clinical leadership support in Majors, Ambulance Assessment, Resus and Paediatrics, caring for patients who attend with acute emergencies.

English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the Nurse in Charge and have opportunities to gain experience within the Nurse in Charge role.

Exciting opportunities exist within the unit for training and development in dealing with emergency care patients (eg. Advanced Life Support, Trauma care and Paediatric Advanced Life Support).

Along with the relevant Emergency Department experience, the successful candidate would be required to be Manchester Triage trained supporting triage at both the RGH and YCR MIU. The successful candidate will display excellent communication and interpersonal skills, functioning effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team, supporting junior team members. The candidate would require excellent organisation, time management and delegation skills as part of their role and have the ability to work effectively in challenging situations.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
