Job overview

We are seeking enthusiastic, compassionate, and highly motivated Bank Midwives to join our maternity services team. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced and newly qualified midwives looking for flexible working arrangements while providing high-quality, woman-centred care across antenatal and postnatal services.

As a Bank Midwife, you will support women and their families throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care for women and their babies.

Main duties of the job

The bank worker will provide all aspects of midwifery care for low risk pregnant women in both the community and hospital setting. 

The bank worker, as a registered Midwife, will practice autonomously using knowledge, skills and abilities for safe, effective practice without direct supervision. 

The bank worker on occasions may be required to work within other areas of the Directorate.  Care of high risk women will be in conjunction with the Obstetric Medical Team. 

The bank worker will deputise as Ward Manager/Team Leader in their absence.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NMC Part 2 Registration. Midwifery Degree or demonstrable equivalent skills, knowledge and experience. Completion of core midwifery competencies in all areas of maternity. Ability to demonstrate Continuous Professional education.
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate in Examination of Newborn (required following appointment). Possession of a management qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a Midwife. Previous experience of working in all areas of the maternity department.
Desirable criteria
  • Perineal suturing. Obstetric theatre scrub skills.

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Venepuncture skills. Good IT skills. Good communication and analytical skills. Able to work as a part of a team. Self-motivated. Able to prioritize tasks and duties. Sound decision maker.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to speak Welsh.
