Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Interventional Radiology nursing team at Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
The Interventional Radiology team are a small and friendly multidisciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Radiographers and Consultant Radiologists. We provide a 24/7 on call service for emergency patients.
For this role you will be a nurse who has interest in developing the skills for this highly specialised area, including scrub, conscious sedation and participating in a cross site on call service.
You will work as part of the nursing team and actively engage in the delivery of excellent patient care in the Radiology setting.
You will be working in a variety of clinical areas with all members of the multidisciplinary team. You will have good communication and organisational abilities alongside an excellent clinical standards.
Previous Radiology experience would be beneficial but is not essential as all training will be carried out in house.
Main duties of the job
Primary responsibilities include patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care. They work closely with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that imaging procedures are carried out safely and effectively.
During procedures, the nurse will be expected to scrub/assist a Radiologist peri-operatively, along with monitor patients' vital signs and overall condition. They provide conscious sedation or pain management if necessary, ensuring that patients remain comfortable and stable throughout the procedure. In emergency situations, radiology nurses are trained to respond quickly, providing critical care and coordinating with other medical staff.
After the procedure, radiology nurses provide post-procedure care, which may include monitoring for adverse reactions, managing any immediate complications or post-procedural pain/discomfort, and providing discharge instructions. They educate patients on what to expect after the procedure and when to seek medical attention if necessary.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/Nursing degree
- Specialist training, experience and attendance at short courses.
Desirable criteria
- Intermediate Life Support Qualification (I.L.S).

- Competent nursing skills and experience in an acute setting such as ITU, Recovery, Surgery, Medicine.
- Competent in day to day shift management
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a Radiology Department.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal communication skills with patients, relatives and other members of the multi-disciplinary team alike.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to cope under pressure.
