A vacancy has become available, for a  highly motivated

Band 6 Scrub /ODP Practitioner , to join our  team and  work within our dynamic theatre department at  Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital.  

The role is an excellent opportunity to advance your clinical leadership skills and support education for team members within the surgical setting. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal, leadership and management skills who can empower and inspire a team. 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to support the  Band 7  Lead and work alongside them to provide leadership within the post operative care unit in YYF.  They will work as part of the ABUHB Theatre team and be actively involved in providing high standards of quality care and promote safety within the clinical environment.  The successful candidate will have considerable Band 5 experience in working in Recovery, and must be able to act as a positive, professional, role model in promoting clinical excellence; ensuring practice is patient centred and evidence based. Full support will be provided for the successful candidate following a PADR and Individual Learning Plan. 

There may be a requirement to travel between sites as necessary, and presently YYF Theatres operate Monday – Friday.

Education/ Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse Adult Branch Or HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner.
  • Mentorship/Teaching & Assessing qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Management Qualification
  • Working towards masters

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive recovery experience at a Band 5.
  • Experience of managing theatre sessions and resources
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in anaesthetics and scrub

Knowledge/Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and skills to manage stressful situations and staff robustly
  • Knowledge of theatre safety directives (NatSSIPs 2)
  • Knowledge and understanding of budgetary control
  • Knowledge and understanding of governance and its application to practice.
  • Technical skills conducive with working in the operating theatres.
  • IT literacy
  • Good writing skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of wider issues and reforms in the NHS.
  • Able to speak Welsh
