Job overview

We are offering an exciting development opportunity for a motivated and experienced registered nurse to train as a Nurse Hysteroscopist.  This Band 6 training role is aimed at nurses wishing to expand their scope of practice into advanced nurse-led diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy services.

The successful candidate will undertake a formal training programme, supported by the senior medical and nursing team.  upon successful completion, you will be expected to independently perform Outpatient hysteroscopy, polypectomy, endometrial biopsies and other procedures as appropriate. 

Main duties of the job

Undertake a comprehensive training programme in outpatient hysteroscopy, including theoretical and clinical competency assessments.

Assist with and progressively lead outpatient hysteroscopy procedures under supervision.

Provide expert nursing care and support to women undergoing hysteroscopy and associated procedures.

Deliver safe, evidence-based practice in line with Trust and national hysteroscopy guidelines.

Participate in audit, service evaluation and quality improvement projects.

Work collaboratively with consultants, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure smooth funning of the service.

Ensure excellent communication with patients, families, and the MDT team.

Contribute to the ongoing development of the nurse-led hysteroscopy service.

You will provide high quality specialist nursing care to all patients and their families/carers from diagnosis, treatment and beyond. You will ensure that patients are supported throughout their journey as their key worker as a point of contact and supporting them to move forward.

You will also act as a resource for other healthcare professionals for gynaecology cancer treatments along with the wider multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will hold well developed interpersonal and communication skills and also possess good facilitation and IT skills.

You will be joining a team who will support you in your gynaecology cancer care learning and experience, in return you will need to show commitment to self-direct your own studies to benefit the patients the team and yourself.

  • Degree or Evidence of academic pathway towards a degree

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Recent knowledge and experience in the holistic assessment of patients
  • Ability to assess psychological needs of patients
  • Ability to demonstrate detailed clinical knowledge relating to the assessment of patients over the telephone
  • Knowledge and experience of using the Ulysses reporting system
Desirable criteria
  • Aware of the Cancer clinical harm policy and escalation process
  • Aware of the Cancer Somerset IT system
