Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered Staff Nurse to support the Ward 1 Stroke team. You will be required to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to support and provide care for patients that have suffered a stroke. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse to develop their knowledge and skills in stroke care.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure that agreed standards of nursing practice within the ward/department area are maintained.
  • Ensure that all Trust, Divisional, and Ward/Department Health & Safety policies are adhered to. 
  • To be a team player supporting patients and the team.
  • To have a holistic approach to the delivery of nursing care.
  • To promote rehabilitation for the stroke patients.
  • Developing positive relationships with parents, families and carers.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (RN1) with current registration with the NMC
  • Relevant degree in health care related subject/or working towards

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience in the last 12 months of looking after patients in healthcare setting
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant experience in an acute stroke setting

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy workload
  • Ability to work under pressure with conflicting demands
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Ability to learn and develop new skills
  • Good organisational and team building skills
Desirable criteria
  • Some knowledge base of stroke medicine and the stroke pathways
