Job overview

We are looking for a driven and experienced RGN who is dedicated in sharing their knowledge with others, can tailor their skills according to the needs of the clinical team and patients, and can work independently to promote the physical health agenda for West Norfolk. 

You will be responsible for oversight and ensuring consistency in the delivery of physical health care in line with national guidelines and the Trust Strategy. There will also be the opportunity for the post holder to influence the development and implementation of the Trust wide health inequalities workstream at a local level, in conjunction with the health inequalities team, within the Patient Experience Directorate

The post holder will act as an expert resource within NSFT by working in collaboration with  with lead clinicians of all disciplines providing advice and guidance to support the effective and safe delivery of the physical health agenda. 

Main duties of the job

  • Provide advice and support for a wide range of physical health monitoring and treatment services to Mental Health service users both in community and acute services.
  • Act as an advisor to all staff, helping to train and educate staff on all aspects of physical health prevention and promotion 
  • Promote and facilitate the delivery of high-quality health improvement interventions e.g. smoking cessation and smoke free clinics, healthy eating and physical activity initiatives.
  • Work with other members of Physical Health Team by leading on good practice around physical health care and infection prevention initiatives.
  • Support the development, completion and analysis of physical health audits. 
  • Support the completion of a wide range of physical health checks for service users in order to ensure the completion of physical health screening and interventions.
  • To remain up-to-date with evidence based practice guidance 
  • Ensure evidence-based Physical Health information is readily available to patients, staff, carers and healthcare professionals and in a wide range of media formats and languages.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RGN, RN (Adult)
Desirable criteria
  • Degree or post graduate certificate in physical health conditions, i.e wound care, tissue viability, chronic disease or willingness to obtain skills.
  • Leadership and management qualification
  • Teaching qualification
  • Post registration qualification in, health promotion including smoking cessation, sexual health and well person screening

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of public health / and NHS improvement initiatives Well person screening, physiological monitoring tests and selection of interventions or referral options for wound care, respiratory illness such as COPD Diabetes, sexual health and family planning.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised accreditation in Quality Improvement

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to perform ECG investigation, phlebotomy, physiological monitoring procedures, respiratory monitoring and support with medication administration in physical health conditions.
  • • Experience and ability in the assessment and treatment of people with serious mental illness (SMI) and co-morbid physical health conditions
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to study these topics. Reflect on clinical practice, identify areas of improvement and work with others to improve physical health care.
