Matron for Maternity Services

NHS AfC: Band 8a

Job overview

We are seeking an exceptional Midwifery Matron to lead Harrogate District Foundation Trust Maternity services through this exciting time of maternity transformation. The service provides high quality, evidence based care to around 1700 births per year. We treat people as individuals and empower them to make decisions about their care and support their choices. Alongside this we want to create an environment where our staff feel valued and appreciated, given the time, the skills and the support to provide the care they aspire to.

The individual we are looking for will have excellent interpersonal skills and is willing to embrace a new challenge.  This  is an exciting development opportunity to consolidate and enhance operational management, leadership, knowledge, experience and skills.

You will have had experience of working in all areas of maternity and show a passion for supporting choices. You will be aware of the national ambition for maternity services and be able to work closely with our local maternity and neonatal system and regional team in order to deliver improved perinatal outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a range of duties as described on the job description. Some of the key aspects of the role are highlighted below:

  • Support the Head of Midwifery and the Associate Director of Midwifery in responsibility for the leadership, operational, professional development and governance of midwifery and maternity services at HDFT.
  • Provide senior credible midwifery voice in a variety of settings, attending meetings and forums, challenging where necessary to ensure compassion in care is of the highest possible standard within the Trust, and promoting maternity services at all times.
  • Support the Head of Midwifery and Associate Director of Midwifery in meeting the organisational, regional and national strategic maternity agenda, by overseeing and managing the day to day operational needs of the service.
  • Play a leading role in the support, supervision and development of staff in the clinical area. Support the development of programs of induction and preceptorship of staff.
  • Provide leadership and support to the midwifery staff, medical staff, maternity support workers and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
