Job overview

The Lung Cancer Screening Programme commences in the Trust in October 2026. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to support the Lung Cancer Screening Lead Nurse to develop the programme and provide excellent care to the participants. The successful candidate will require compassionate communication skills and have experience in a Band 5 role.  

The Lung Cancer Screening programme will enable the early detection of lung cancer in order to save lives by detecting lung cancer at an early stage and offering curative treatment.

The main purpose of this role is to:

aa)      Provide specialist nursing support to patients referred for lung cancer screening

 

bb)      Be a practising health care professional with a current registration. During the course of their work they will interact with patients over the delivery and provision of their care which will involve judgements over a range of complex clinical issues.

Main duties of the job

·         To be the link between the screening programme and the clinical teams, until the patient is incorporated into the clinical service. Primarily for patients with an abnormal CT chest result but also for other incidental findings under agreed protocol.

 

·         To co-ordinate onward referral for patients as appropriate onto a cancer pathway or other specialist service if required.

 

·         To attend the weekly Screening Review Meetings, present and discuss abnormal results.

 

·         Identify the specific educational needs of those at risk of lung cancer and their carers so that they are empowered to manage their condition and seek appropriate help and advice.
