An exciting opportunity has arisen for a

Primary Care Nurse to join the Healthcare team at HMP Leicester

Working within HMP Leicester provides an exciting opportunity for all healthcare professionals. The Primary Healthcare Team provides a wide variety of care from initial assessment / screening for all new patients, clinical triage, emergency response, care of minor illness and injuries,  nurse led clinics for long term conditions  and health promotion.  We aim to provide  healthcare to offenders that is equivalent to those in the community.

Nursing in a custodial environment provides the perfect opportunity to offer a positive nurse led health experience to a group of patients who are usually identified as experiencing poor health outcomes.

This post is based at HMP Leicester; however, the trust provides healthcare services in a number of prisons across the East Midlands. There will be opportunities for cross site working and peer support.

You should be enthusiastic, motivated, patient focused and enjoy a challenge. We provide a service 24 hours 7 days a week on an internal rotation basis. The team operates in a supportive environment with a commitment to personal and professional development.

This role is for both newly registered general nurses and for  nurses wishing to pursue a career within offender health.


Details of the essential criteria

You will need to have a valid RGN Qualification and be registered with the NMC.

You should also be flexible, adaptable and have good IT skills.

Ideally you will have prior experience of working within a range of healthcare environments and It would also be beneficial to have previous experience or an understanding of working within a secure setting.



For nursing roles graduating in 2020/21; and gaining employment in the same financial year; the first year of professional member fees will be paid as incentive to employment
