Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen in the Haematology department for an enthusiastic, self motivated and dynamic leader.  Stirland Ward is a 24 bedded  Oncology/ Haematology ward. 

We are looking to recruit a visible ward sister/charge nurse who is a professional role model dedicated to delivering high standards of care and gets the fundamentals right, someone who loves to develop others to become excellent at what they do and wants to make a difference. You will be a nurse who can demonstrate motivation towards delivering the highest standard of nursing care and the ability to work as part of a proactive and forward thinking multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

You will be self-driven, innovative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will also be highly motivated with a desire to provide the highest standards of care, whilst demonstrating clear leadership. You will be accountable for the efficient and effective operational management of the ward, provide support and supervision of nursing and non-nursing staff; assist in maintaining and monitoring key performance indicators.  For further information please see Job Description.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse part 1 of the register
  • First level degree
  • LEO Course
  • Evidence of Leadership and Management
  • Excellent knowledge of haematology/oncology and communication skills
  • Evidence in Health and Safety procedures and practice
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification
  • UCON SACT Passport
  • Working towards LEO Course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Band 6 or above experience in Haematology and Oncology
  • Evidence of managing budget and establishments
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of developing standards, guidelines and policies
  • Can demonstrate evidence-based skills within haematology/oncology
  • Evidence of recruitment and selection process
  • Evidence of education and development of staff
  • Able to demonstrate a service improvement or re-design

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of negotiating and influencing skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking presentations
