To act as a visible resource of support and advice for senior midwives , divisional education leads, practice supervisor / assessor and managers in practice, specifically in relation to cases where there are concerns relating to student/learner or practice supervisor / assessor competence and capability.

JOB SUMMARY
The Practice Development (PDM) Midwife is a proactive midwifery leader, teacher and role model hosted by the Family Health Division to work across NUH maternity services developing best practices related to student midwifery practice education to ensure maximum success of achieving professional registration upon completion of midwifery training. The PDM leads on the development of excellence in practice education for student midwives and other learners ensuring they receive high quality education whilst preparing to undertake assessments with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The PDM will be accountable for ensuring students and learners receive high quality support whilst on clinical placement including the delivery of a robust student induction process.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring the NMC Standards Framework for nursing and midwifery education are met, ensuring theory and practice learning and assessment are facilitated effectively. They will respond effectively to the changing national and regulatory guidance related to midwifery education and ensure clinical midwifery educators, practice assessors and practice supervisors are fully equipped with the skills to adapt education delivery as required. They will be supportive and objective in their approach to supervision and assessment. The PDM will be a strong clinical leader, easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to corporate and divisional education leads, divisional midwives, senior midwifery leaders and practice supervisors and assessors.
The post holder will respond effectively to the learning needs of individuals and ensure practice assessors and supervisors receive high quality training in line with NMC guidance and receive required support in clinical practice. The post holder will ensure the active involvement of education leads, senior midwives in the way practice learning, and clinical support are developed, delivered and evaluated. Leading by example he/she will drive up standards of midwifery education and have the authority to get the essential components of this right for students and learners –ensuring quality in experience, well-being and pastoral support. They will work in partnership with regulatory bodies/ HEI partners to ensure robust governance systems and processes for education resolving problems and ensuring high standards are maintained throughout, ensuring NUH has a reputation as an education provider and employer of choice.
The post holder will provide leadership, advice and support, fostering a learning culture, which values high quality patient care, evidence based practice, research and innovation. Working in partnership with regional
education leads, trust practice development midwives/Division senior midwives/ Matrons/ ward/department managers to share best practice and ensure the delivery of the N&M midwifery strategic plan and
implementation of effective strategies to enhance student and staff satisfaction and engagement, improved staff retention, student recruitment and multi-disciplinary team working to achieve agreed, common goals/outcomes. Ensures the highest standards of education, research, and clinical care are in place and in collaboration with the Trust and Divisional senior team implements, maintains and evaluates systems and processes, which ensure standards, are maintained.
