Job overview
The Midwife Sonography team at NUH are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated registered Midwife who is interested in training to become a Midwife Sonographer.
You will have excellent communication skills, be a team player, keen to learn and demonstrate a commitment to providing high quality care. This is an excellent opportunity to join our friendly and hard working team.
The successful applicant will be funded to train at The University of Derby whilst obtaining clinical experience with the team.
The vacancy is part time, working 25.5h per week over 3 days. Working pattern is Monday - Friday, 8-5pm, to work across both QMC and City Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
Once qualified, duties will include:
- Undertaking 2nd and 3rd trimester fetal surveillance scans as part of the Midwife Sonography team
- Interpreting scans performed and ensuring an appropriate care plan is in place
- Vetting and actioning scan referrals
- Performing audits
Following qualification, the successful applicant will undertake a consolidation period. After which, further training will be undertaken to perform uterine artery doppler scans.

- Able to recognise and act upon normal/ abnormal clinical findings
Planning and Organisation Skills
Essential criteria
- On a day to day basis is able to organise and plan own workload effectively. At the same time, working alongside colleagues within a multidisciplinary team.
- Works under supervision of a lead Midwife
Physical Skills
Essential criteria
- Be able to care for antenatal women undergoing fetal surveillance in the 2nd and 3rd trimester
- Can demonstrate practical dexterity and manual co-ordination
- Evidence of good health and good attendance record
- Will be required to adhere to trust policy for manual handling
Other requirements specific to the role (eg be able to drive or work shifts)

- Adheres to Midwives rules and standards of code of conduct and is aware of own responsibility regarding hospital policies ie Health and safety, risk management, medicines management
- This is cross site post and you will be required to work on both QMC and City Campuses.
