An exciting opportunity has arisen within the established Cancer Admissions Avoidance Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS
Trust for a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. We are looking for an
experienced, motivated, and dynamic nurse to join our friendly and forward thinking multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
As a Cancer Admissions and Triage CNS you would be involved in a range of activities including; acting as an expert oncology resource to patients and healthcare colleagues, offering evidence based advice through triaging patients using the UKONS proforma, maintaining telephone clinics and facilitating patient flow 7 days a week. Being able to recognise
complications related to treatment and where possible minimise the need for hospital admission is key.
Applicants should have significant post registration experience at Band 5 or above within an oncology setting. The applicant will need to be able to demonstrate evidence of specialist knowledge and experience relating to all aspects of oncological malignancy. The Cancer Admissions Triage Team play a vital role in participating in audits and feeding back to the wider
oncology team, as well as teaching in both a group setting and during 1:1 sessions.
Informal visits are highly recommended.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Cancer Admissions and Triage CNS you would be involved in;
Acting as a resource to patients and healthcare colleagues who contact the hospital via the oncology triage line.
Triaging oncology patients using the UKONS proforma, offering appropriate evidence based advice to those patients and healthcare colleagues where possible to minimise the need for hospital based assessment and admission.
Maintaining a telephone review clinic for all cycle 1 chemotherapy patients to make an early assessment of complications related to treatment and encourage appropriate self-management or arrange day case assessment.
Maintain databases designed to record telephone clinics to allow appropriate coding and allow funding streams to be accurate.
Facilitating patient flow 7 days a week to ensure appropriate places of care for inpatients (reducing outlying bed usage) and direct non- admission assessments.

Essential criteria
- Current level one NMC registration (adult branch).
- UKONS triage trained
Desirable criteria
- Completion of chemotherapy package
- IV Competent
- Formal leadership and management training
- Research training/experience
- Suitable Teaching & Assessing Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience at band 5 level in oncology
- Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff
- Experience triaging oncology patients
Desirable criteria
- Recent or current experience within the specialty
- Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work
- Knowledge of oncology admission pathways.
- Audit or research within the clinical area
Communication & Realationship Skill
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrate effective communication over the phone to patients and colleagues
- Ability to effectively manage complex situations over the phone
- Ability to give clear and evidenced based oncological advice in a variety of settings
