Job overview

Carrel is a busy dynamic unit that carers for patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and transplantation including live  and non heart beating transplantation and ABO incompatibility Transplant programme. We also deliver the full spectrum of renal replacement therapies including plasma exchange.

We offer a full induction, an in-house advanced renal course,  mentorship programme  and the opportunity to rotate between our nephrology wards and our dialysis at city hospital.

Main duties of the job

The role of staff nurse include, being responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care ensuring that these are evaluated and amended as appropriate.

Document the condition and progress of patients and report to senior nursing staff and/or medical staff any areas of concern.

Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed policies and guidelines.

Demonstrate clinical procedures to registered and unregistered staff as required.

Take charge of the clinical area at times in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility or his/her deputy.

Supervise unregistered (and at times registered) staff as appropriate.

Maintain effective channels of communication.

Be aware of the need for confidentiality both in the written and spoken word.

Maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients in order to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently.

Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safe keeping of patients' property in accordance with the Patients' Property Procedure.

Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all policies

Main duties of the role include being able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust’s “We are here for you” behavioural standards.

Be a qualified Registered nurse; be able to show evidence of Continuing Professional Development or reflective profile.

Willing to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery and patient care.

Be Physically able, be able and willing to Supervise unqualified staff, be a Team player.

Work on own initiative. Be Confident in assessment skills and decision making skills.

Good organisational and time management ability.

Ability to teach patients and staff one to one and in groups, able to present verbal and written information and maintain accurate patient records. Be Caring and Committed.

Experience will depend on the post/ward requirements at the time of recruitment as some may be more suitable for staff with previous experience. Contact ward manager for more information.
