The Mental Health Division of Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust comprises of three directorates; Adult Mental Health, Mental Health Services for Older People and Specialist Services. Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

Main duties of the job

This is a unique opportunity to work across the City Community Mental Health Team and Intensive Home Treatment Team within the Older People Care Unit. As an experienced RMN, this role will require the successful candidate to work autonomously managing a caseload, undertaking initial assessments, care coordinating, and developing nursing intervention plans for patients open to the team. The postholder will contribute to multidisciplinary team discussions and support students during placements. 

We help patients and their families to cope with periods of severe mental illness and assess, plan and implement a personal path of recovery for each patient. We work with people who have a wide range of mental health difficulties and dementia. Some may require short term intervention, and sometimes longer-term care plans will be put in place.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and self motivated Band 5 Community Psychiatric Nurse.

You will need to be able to engage proactively with individuals using the principles of recovery to provide effective mental healthcare for patients across the mental health spectrum, alongside care coordination for some patients under the Care Programme Approach. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the service and develop your own skills and attributes.

Duties will include involvement in managing medication, administering depots, case management of clients with complex mental health needs, utilising professional core skills, working with family and friends. 

This post would suit an experienced qualified mental health nurse looking to develop their community skills. .

Essential criteria
  • Professional Qualification (Mental Health/Learning Disabilities/General) to degree level or equivalent.
  • Maintains current registration with NMC or NMC registration is pending completion of course in very near future
Desirable criteria
  • Continued professional development

  • Good written/ oral communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible and handle conflict issues
