Job overview

Are you a clinician, ready to develop your leadership skills?

We're looking for a Duty Lead within the Oxford South Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team,  who will be responsible for duty requests on behalf of the CAMHS Getting More Help service. With many changes to duties, this is an exciting time for South CAMHS. The duty lead is essential to implementing these changes, which directly enhance the experience of service users.

The duty rota is made up of other qualified CAMHS Clinicians who work regularly alongside you as the Duty Lead. These Clinicians are rostered in as part of their core responsibilities within the Community team.

Oxford South CAMHS is made up of a multi-disciplinary team including Nurses, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Family Therapists, Psychotherapists,  Occupational Therapists, and Administrators.

We have good structures of both Clinical and Managerial Supervision as well as Peer Supervision and Reflective Practice Groups. We also are keen to support staff in their professional development in both formal training opportunities as well as more informal team training. 

 

Main duties of the job

As the Duty Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing duty, responding to calls and participating in the urgent assessments of young people that are undertaken each day. You will organise duty assessments according to the individual Clinician’s experience and clinical need of the patient.

This opportunity is for an experienced Clinician to develop their clinical leadership skills and support the Clinical Team Manager by overseeing duty and identifying patients that need to be seen sooner or to use their clinical expertise to help resolve a situation before the point of crisis.

An opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the duty provision within Getting More Help.

As the post holder, you will work closely with all Oxford South CAMHS Getting Help and Getting More Help staff and the Oxfordshire Crisis Response and Home Treatment Team (CRHTT).

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Strong knowledge and skills in assessing risk and developing safety/management plans
  • Knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable children and adults
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge in the range of mental health disorders in children and adolescents and current treatments, underpinned by theory and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies with children and adolescents with a range of Mental Health diagnosis.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualification in Mental Health Nursing, Social work or Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with a professional governing body such as NMC or HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post qualifying education such as MSc level 7 modules.
  • To hold an advanced professional/clinical qualification such as CBT or DBT or similar.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience as a qualified mental health practitioner, working across different settings, which must include experience of working in a community mental health setting.
  • Previous substantial experience of working in CAMHS or a Crisis setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with Looked after and Adopted children
