Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist

NHS AfC: Band 7

Due to reconfiguration of our existing team  we are looking to recruit a Palliative Care Nurse Specialist.  This is exciting opportunity to join a well established and helpful team of Palliative care nurses to deliver specialist palliative care.  This is also an opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within palliative care .  This post will be appointed to as either Band 6 or Band 7 depending on the successful candidate's previous level of experience.  If band 6 then the appointee can work towards set competencies and progress to Band 7 within 12 months of appointment

Set working days could be considered although it would be expected that the post holder will work weekends on a rota basis alongside the rest of the team.  

This post is to support the palliative care service in line with CQC recommendations.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

You will provide specialist support and advice for patients receiving palliative and end of life care.  This will include triaging referrals to the team from clinical colleagues, reviewing patients in the inpatient setting and providing specialist palliative care advice and support for inpatients.  In addition you will liaise with clinical colleagues in the Hospice and the community setting where required to provide support for patients.  You will need to have a high level of existing clinical skill and experience in managing palliative and end of life care patients

Excellent communication skills will be essential in order to provide high quality information to the patient and you will need to be confident in breaking bad news if this is required.  This post will be expected to work across both The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford sites so you must have the ability to travel cross site.

Qualifications

  • Significant post registration experience within the NHS
  • RGN
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional development/ qualification relevant to area of speciality
  • Palliative Care qualification
  • Degree in relevant speciality

  • Advanced physical assessment
  • Non medical prescribing
  • Symptom management module
  • Advanced communication skills training
  • Masters level study or willingness to undertake

Education and Professional Development

  • Experience in teaching and training of staff
  • Involvement in Nursing audit and Research
  • An awareness and understanding of national and local issues relevant to speciaslity.

  • Understanding national and local policy relating to speciality
