Staff Nurse - Chemotherapy Day Centre

NHS AfC: Band 5

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a settled and supportive specialist team administering chemotherapy and other anti-cancer treatments on the chemotherapy unit.  Full training will be given on the unit and the successful candidate will be fully supported to achieve internal chemotherapy competencies.  It would be expected that the successful candidate would complete an externally accredited chemotherapy course at some point in the future.

You will need to have excellent communication skills and be confident at communicating with patients who are facing a life limiting illness.  You will need to be confident in communicating with all members of the multi-disciplinary team at all levels.  We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in caring for patients with cancer, who is keen to develop this and progress in the future.  You will be expected to cannulate and take bloods but full training for this will be given.  You will need to be hard working, flexible and fit in well within our existing team.  You will need to be able to demonstrate the Trust Values within your everyday work.

We are happy to consider either full time or part time working.  We currently work 8am-6pm so could offer longer working days, or can accommodate a candidate who would prefer to work 9-5.   We would also be more than happy to accommodate set working days.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be responsible for assessing, planning and implementing patient care and evaluating outcomes.
  • In the absence a more senior staff nurse the post holder will take responsibility for the Oncology Day Unit.
  • The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of basic patient care without direct supervision and will also be required to supervise and demonstrate procedures to trained /untrained members of staff

Working for our organisation

The Team on the unit are very committed to providing the best possible patient experience for all our patients. The staff have very high standards and always strive to achieve the best in all areas. We have a wealth of experience within the team and staff from all different backgrounds.   Our team are also very supportive to any new starter within the department and will help them settle into the role.
