Paediatric Research Nurse/AHP
NHS AfC: Band 6
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the research team within Women & Children's initially based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford (PRH), however this will change with the Hospital Transformation programme as the service will move to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH).
This Band 6 role involves working with the team to deliver trials to our Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals (SaTH) population, giving them the opportunity to participate in developing novel and innovative treatments and interventions.
No two days will look the same as you work on new trials, follow ups, screening and recruiting patients while guiding them through their research journey.
We are looking for an experienced paediatric nurse, ideally the post holder will have recent experience of working in Clinical Research or the ability demonstrate a real passion for research. You must be flexible and hard working with the ability to manage your workload effectively to cope with tight deadlines and conflicting demands.
Visits to the department are highly encouraged prior to shortlisting.
Your base will be either The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital or The Princess Royal Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The focus of this role will be to support the recruitment and follow up of patients in studies, both academic and industry sponsored.
The role will involve identifying, screening, consenting, recruiting and conducting follow up with patients into many national clinical studies, as well as entering data onto spreadsheets and data collection forms.
The successful post holder will have overall day-to-day responsibility for the delivery of clinical protocols into non-interventional as well as more complex interventional academic and industry studies.
Some cross site working may be incorporated with this role.
Working for our organisation
Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment
We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team — clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.
We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.
Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.
By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
Hospital Transformation Programme
Our Service will relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 as part of HTP. This move will bring specialist services together in a modern, purpose-built facility to improve patient care and team experience.
We are actively recruiting, and successful candidates will be expected to move with the Service in early 2028. The relocation will follow a formal management of change process, including full consultation and support for staff.
