Staff Nurse - Medical Assessment Unit

band 5

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us and work within a friendly, supportive and innovative team on the MAU at the Royal United Hospital Bath. We currently have vacancies for Band 5 nurses. This comes with scope to progression to senior Band 5, Developmental Band 6 opportunities and progression to a substantive Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse.

Our purpose is simple-"Putting Patients First". We are looking for exceptional colleagues who can help us achieve this.  Our recent CQC inspection in July 2023 rated our Caring Service as Outstanding. We are therefore committed to recruiting the best people to work with us to achieve our Vision, leading and supporting our teams to move forward and working in partnership to provide the best healthcare for our communities.

If you can help us to achieve this and you believe in putting patients first we would love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

Our 25 bed unit admits patients 24/ 7 from the A&E department and also from GP practices to our 11 bed Direct Assessment Area. Patients stay on MAU for up to 72hours  before being transferred to a continuing care ward / discharged directly home. Patients in DAA, are seen and assessed with an aim to be discharged on the same day.

The primary role of MAU/DAA is to provide initial assessment, investigation and treatment for medical conditions as well as providing on going care and facilitating safe transfer to a ward or discharge home. We work in close collaboration with A&E and Ambulatory Care in order to improve and maximise patient flow and reduce patient wait.

We are passionate  about improving our service and the delivery of high quality, individualised care to our patients. Our staff are at the centre of everything we do. We engage with and invest in our nursing teams creating an environment where all staff feel valued.

We offer continued support through the Trust Preceptorship Programme, regular personal development reviews and individualised objectives to support professional and personal development within the department. We also offer in house training opportunities with our own clinical practice facilitators. You will be supported  on every shift by a senior nurse who will help to develop your confidence, knowledge and skills.

If you believe you have what it takes to work in this fast paced exciting unit then we would love to hear from you.
