A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to apply for a fixed term or secondment to the role of Motor Neurone Disease Clinical Nurse Specialist to cover maternity leave.
If you have knowledge and experience in neurological/respiratory disorders or palliative care then this opportunity may be for you.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work to provide specialist nursing support, advice, education, and care to individuals diagnosed with MND who attend the Sheffield MND Care and Research Centre. They will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment of needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards within the defined service group.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.
All existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis.
Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse with valid NMC registration
- Advanced Diploma in Nursing or equivalent 1st degree, or working towards
- To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
- Commitment to professional development and education
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of leadership and management development
- Recognised counselling skills certificate or willing to undertake
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of complex patient management
- Relevant experience with a proven interest in MND or other progressive conditions or palliative care
- Proven management and leadership experience
- Proven experience in the understanding of and communication with individuals with complex needs and patients who have life limiting conditions
- Experience of effective time management and ability to prioritise own workload
- Experience of working within safeguarding procedures
Desirable criteria
- Experience of Neuromedicine or Neurorehabilitation
- Experience of palliative care and end of life pathways
- Experience of working in Primary Care /community setting
- Audit and research experience
Further Training
Essential criteria
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to manage change whilst maintaining standards
- Strong leadership skills
- Good IT and presentation skills
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and experience of using skills with patients
- Training / experience in undertaking advanced Care Planning Discussions
