Job overview

The Children and Young People’s Eating Disorders Day Service is recruiting a Band 6 Registered Mental Health Nurse based at Corporation Street in Stafford. This is a permanent position working 30 hours per week

The service provides specialist, intensive, evidence-based support for children and young people with moderate to severe eating disorders. It is designed to deliver flexible, person-centred care tailored to the individual needs of each young person.

In this role you will ensure the effective management of the Unit in the absence of the Clinical / Operational lead manager with day-to-day responsibility of managing the shift, reviewing staffing and capacity over a 24hr period during functioning hours.

You will delivery of a high standard of patient care daily and providing leadership and teaching to nursing and support staff.

You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for young people experiencing eating disorders as an alternative to hospital admission or to facilitate early discharge

Main duties of the job

  • Independently and comprehensively assess clients referred to day care, plan care, monitor physical and mental health risks in conjunction with the MDT and MEED guidance, evaluate and contribute to discharge planning.
  • Develop in collaboration with the young person and their families/ carer/ loved one, their care plan, risk assessment, recovery and risk management plan.
  • Assess and manage ongoing risks as identified during assessment, ensuring that this is done in collaboration with young people, their families/loved ones and carers. Regularly review risk factors and make changes to the management of them as necessary.
  • To provide holistic support to clients through individual ‘key working’ sessions.
  • Lead/ Contribute to mealtime supervision and support.
    Deputise for the Day Care Clinical/Operational Lead when necessary and lead on shift coordination.
  • Be responsible for carrying out a range of therapeutic interventions with the young person in concordance with NICE guidelines, either individually or in a group setting.
  • Offer support, supervision and mentoring for students on placement, following successful completion of mentorship course. Supervise other CEDS professionals and offer support and supervision to junior team members.
  • Provide clinical and managerial supervision to staff nurses and trainees and maintain accurate and up to date records in line with Trust policy.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First Level Mental Health Nurse with current professional registration with NMC
  • Post-registration experience and/or evidence of formal courses and training at post graduate diploma level
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical Supervision Training
  • Recognised Psychological Interventions Training, e.g. CBT, FT-AN, AFP
  • Quality Improvement Methodology Training
  • Recognised Management or Leadership Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant demonstrable post qualification experience working in a mental health / specialist in-patient setting.
  • Experience of developing, delivering and evaluating specialist programmes of care and risk management plans.
  • Evidence of successful mentoring and/or supervision of junior members of staff including students.
  • Evidence of improving service delivery in line with evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrable experience of effective multi-disciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an eating disorder setting.
  • Experience of managing a team of staff.
