Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paediatric or Learning Disability or Adult Nurse to join our Staffordshire Special Needs School Nursing Team, this post will support our Newcastle Hub.

The successful applicant could work covering the whole of Staffordshire. The team consists of a South Staffordshire base and a North Staffordshire base. The main schools to be covered are in the Newcastle and Stoke on Trent areas although there may be a requirement to cover at other schools if required.

Working as a member of a friendly, highly skilled team you will have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of children and young people who have special needs and their families. You will be responsible for their healthcare needs during the school day and work in partnership with education colleagues in the school and with parents. You will also work collaboratively with the wider Multi Agency Teams to meet health and safeguarding needs

You will be instrumental in realising our vision to constantly strive to improve the healthcare provision within the special schools and be an integral part of the Special School Nursing Team to enable these children to fully access education and so reach their full potential Access to a vehicle for work purposes is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing skilled evidence based care to the children within the Special Needs School setting
  • Coordination and deliver of care
  • Assessment, planning and implementation of care
  • Contributing to the Education, Health and Care Plans.
  • Training and updating of education, staff using evidence based training packs, to carry out procedures which include administration of medication and enteral feeds
  • You will lead on the Initial Health Assessment and drawing up of care plans and work in partnership school staff, parents and carers in their implementation
  • Contribute to the public health agenda through Personal Health and Social Education and health promotion activities
  • Participate in report writing and attendance at Safeguarding Conferences, Reviews and Core Group meetings with support from the Band 6 Special Needs School Nurses
  • Provide Looked After Children Health Care reports

The post is part time, term time only, working flexibly over Monday to Friday 8.30- 4.30 (23 hours per week).
