Job overview

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

Important information for applicants: To ensure clarity of accountability, scope of practice and professional responsibilities, the Trust does not normally appoint individuals holding active NMC or HCPC registration into Band 2 Clinical/AHP Support Worker, Band 3 Senior Clinical/AHP Support Worker or Band 4 AHP Support Worker/Technician roles. Please note that if you are selected for an interview there will be a pre-interview English and Numeracy test for this role.

Main duties of the job

Key Areas/Tasks

• It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year, with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment.
• Communicate and report any changes or information relating to the patient to the Registered Nurse.
• Communicate appropriately with patients and visitors to the Ward or Department. Always portraying a professional respectful manner.
• To receive patients, visitors and staff in a calm, friendly and efficient manner.
• Exchanges information with patients using reassurance, tact and empathy.
• Overcome barriers to understanding for example patients with physical or mental disabilities.
• The post holder will be required to undertake as appropriate any training packages relevant to the healthcare setting and on-going training as determined by the Trust and their line manager.
• For all new Clinical Support Workers, it is mandatory that they complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks off issue.
• All Clinical Support Workers are required to complete both Corporate and Care Coach Induction within their first week of employment.
• The post holder will work towards completion of a vocational qualification in care as agreed in their PDR.
• Have a duty to respond and report patient’s condition in a timely manner. This will include judgements involving facts.
• Hold basic keyboard skills.
• Dexterity to undertake nursing care procedures as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Clinical Support Worker on ARTU, Ward 227, you will play an essential role in delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care to patients who have had suffered major trauma and are at different stages of their recovery. This includes patients who have suffered from orthopaedic, spinal, brain injuries or complex injuries and require specialised rehabilitation. 

Your main role and responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering personal care including washing, dressing, toileting, and assisting with meals in a way that maintains dignity and respects patient preferences

  • Supporting patients mobility and promoting independence, including the use of appropriate mobility aids

  • Assisting with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients

  • Accurately documenting care given and escalating concerns promptly to the registered nurse

  • Contributing to a clean and safe environment by adhering to infection control policies and maintaining high standards of hygiene

  • Working collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team 

  • Ensure training is kept up to date and engage in the appraisal processes to support your professional development

  • Upholding the UHNM Trust values
