Senior Sister

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for a fixed term 12 month term as Senior Sister in the Paediatric Surgical and Oncology Ward. 

The post holder will be responsible for the operational delivery of the Surgical, Inpatient and Day Case Unit and Oncology Inpatients under the guidance of the Child Health Matron.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the clinical team to set and deliver clinical standards for quality patient care and outcomes monitoring clinical effectiveness and undertaking audit programmes. 


The post holder will also be responsible for the HR management of the ward establishment taking lead responsibility for sickness absence reporting and management, performance management working within the Trust Policy and procedure, Education and Development of the nursing workforce and ensuring key trust and directorate data is up to date demonstrating a well led and effective unit. 

The post holder will work closely with the Child Health Management Team and will be responsible for the delivery of the Senior Nurse meeting's and unit meetings producing minutes and action plans.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on NMC Register
  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Post Registration study in relevant speciality.

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 5 years post registration experience to include management and leadership - minimum 3 years experience
  • Evidence of working within a childrens surgical and oncology service
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Good communication skills
