Job overview

The post holder will work closely with The Head of Safeguarding to ensure that all MPFT Care Groups are compliant with their statutory and regulatory safeguarding requirements and will promote multi-agency and multiprofessional working to ensure safeguarding arrangements are in place in line with national best practice.

Main duties of the job

The Post holder will co-ordinate the Trust response to Safeguarding cases working closely with other agencies and providing direct support and supervision to multiprofessional colleagues.

·       Ensure that training and supervision is available to frontline practice within the Trust

·       Escalating concerns in accordance with escalating concerns protocol

·       Contribute to child protection and adult safeguarding enquiry processes in accordance with multi agency policies

The post holder will work closely with colleagues from other disciplines such as the Police; Probation; the Local Authority; private and voluntary sector and a variety of partner organisations.

The post holder will be responsible for information sharing and exchange for the purposes of Adult and Child Safeguarding and Domestic abuse. The post holder will access current systems and share this information in accordance with the Multi-Agency information sharing protocols.

The post holder will take a lead role for Safeguarding across the Care Groups; providing safeguarding support to frontline staff and making sure that staff are clear about the safeguarding procedures

The post holder will represent The Trust at key meetings as indicated in the key roles and responsibilities

The post holder will act as an autonomous practitioner in aspects of their role, agreeing protection plans with professionals, service users, carers and Trust staff all in line with multi agency policies and procedures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1.     To be a Senior Safeguarding Practitioner for MPFT and advise the Care Group on how to interpret and implement guidelines relating to Safeguarding.

2.     To assist in the development of specialised safeguarding care plans for service users, advising MPFT staff and all relevant agencies on the best course of action to be taken in the best interests of the child, young person or adult. 

3.     To work closely with other Named Professionals in supporting all activities across MPFT ensuring that the Trust discharges its responsibilities in relation to Safeguarding Children and Adults.

4.     To advise Police, Social Care and other agencies on health matters with regard to safeguarding children and adults.

5.     To contribute and ensure that MPFT meets its obligations under Section 11 of the Children Act 2004 and in line with the statutory guidance detailed in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018).

6.     Provide sound safeguarding advice on the day-to day management of adults, children and families/ carers where there are complex safeguarding issues or concerns.

7.     Support and advise other professionals on how to present verbal and written reports to strategy meetings, case conferences, and other meetings as required.

8.     Demonstrate an ability to manage over lengthy prolonged periods of time emotionally demanding work that is frequently distressing and stressful and be able to support others to carry out such work.

9.     Exercise a degree of autonomy to make critical decisions and judgments in the case management of safeguarding adults, children with complex safeguarding needs, and children looked after.

10.  Complete section 42 enquiries (Care Act 2014) within the care group where the abuse is alleged to have occurred within MPFT services or by MPFT staff

11.  Complete learning reviews for serious child and adult safeguarding incidents

12.  Complete safeguarding audits (sometimes complex) within the care group

13.  Contribute to multiagency working/steering groups as a representative of MPFT, including MARAC, CSE and HBV/FM/FGM etc. in alignment with role portfolios.

14.  Provide cross cover arrangements for named professional in other care groups as required 

15.  Have line management responsibility for the B6 safeguarding practitioner

16.  Contribute to the development of a comprehensive safeguarding training strategy based on a clear competency framework and in line with the intercollegiate guidance. 

17.  Promote, influence, and develop relevant safeguarding training on both a single and interagency basis to ensure that the needs of health staff are addressed. 

18.  Play an active part in the planning and delivery of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency training. 

19.  Monitor, audit, and review training delivered to ensure a high, up to date standard is maintained 

20.  Contribute to any subgroups of Multi-Agency Boards as appropriate. 

21.  Establish clear lines of communication within, and between Trusts, particularly when transferring of records between the health services and other agencies and ensure adherence to policy and procedures. 

22.  Establish clear lines of communication internally and externally with partner agencies regarding safeguarding arrangements and complex cases. 

23.  Liaise with the Police and share information as appropriate in criminal investigations. Ensure that Clinicians are informed regarding Police incidents involving Children,

24.  Offer support and advice on safeguarding issues, and act as a resource, to fellow Professionals and to other agencies (accessing legal advice where necessary).

25.  Be aware of and cascade information regarding our multi-agency public protection arrangements. 

26.  Disseminate relevant policy recommendations, procedures and information arising from Safeguarding Boards.
