Sexual Safety Liaison Officer

Job overview

The post-holder will initially be the first point of contact  and provide support  for staff who wish to raise concerns related to  sexual safety or who have experienced sexual misconduct or other sensitive workplace incidents.  The post holder will report to the Lead for Vulnerable People/Corporate Nursing .  The Sexual Safety Liaison Officer  will responsible for implementing culture change and embedding  sexual safety awareness across the Trust. Their focus will be ensuring that staff feel safe  and empowered to report concerns . The role  will also include promoting a safe environment across the Trust, in line with the Sexual Safety Charter and programs of work that advocate for UHNM to become a safe place to work and learn. Advocacy for those raising concerns regarding sexual safety in the workplace will be essential to this role. The post holder will champion, in collaboration with the Corporate Safeguarding Team and HR People Team in raising awareness regarding sexual safety, across the Trust to students, staff and patients, and support in education of related sexual safety education. The post holder will work collaboratively with Operational Managers and HR colleagues to ensure departmental managers are trained, confident and supported to deal with concerns of this nature.

Main duties of the job

·           The role involves regular exposure to distressing and challenging situations in the workplace

·           To utilise empathetic and self-awareness skills to deal with bereaved relatives who may have barriers to understanding information due to their grief or disability, and to always remain highly professional

·           To be computer literate to enable the effective use of various bespoke software packages/databases, allowing activity data relating to the work of the service to be analysed and reported on by senior colleagues

·           To ensure Datix incident forms are completed promptly as necessary

·           To adhere to guidelines and legislation surrounding the Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulations

·           To maintain an awareness of the diverse needs of the workforce, to ensure equality to any group defined by sex, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender reassignment and disability

·           Champion awareness about Sexual Safety across the Trust to students, staff and patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·           Ensure that Sexual Safety Support functions are an integral part of the Trust’s services.

·           To maintain and keep current the skill sets required for the role

·           Ensure that existing Trust policies and processes allow for sensitive and swift management of concerns regarding Sexual Safety, liaising with the relevant stakeholders to influence change in practices

·           To contribute to the review of relevant policies and procedures

·           Undertake audits on a quarterly basis to ensure that there is compliance with policy and procedures aligned to sexual safety in the workplace. Produce reports to evidence the result of audits

·           Deliver often difficult, contentious and uncomfortable information to senior managers in relation to Sexual Safety and its continued development across UHNM

·           Work in emotional and sensitive situations that require a high level of emotional effort, mental ability and concentration. The post holder will need to be calm, compassionate, diplomatic and tactful.  The post holder will be required to deal with highly sensitive confidential information

·           Work alongside and provide support the corporate safeguarding team and HR people teams and People Organisational Development Team to implement new ways of working in relation to Sexual Safety across the Trust, collaborating with teams across the Care Groups

qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Degree qualification or equivalent experience or equivalent training and experience in Specialised Discipline (Nursing, AHP, Social care professional, police etc
Desirable criteria
  • • Counselling Qualification
  • • Independent Sexual Advisor Qualification/evidence of training undertaken - expertise in this subject

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of dealing with concerns of sexual safety in the workplace
  • • Experience of working with patients/staff / service users who have experienced sexual assault
  • • Experience of working with patients/staff affected by trauma and understanding of trauma informed care
Desirable criteria
  • • Able to utilise initiative to solve problems and develop the service
  • • Ability to understand, interpret and critically analyze data and information
