Elective Orthopaedics is recruiting! Working with us at Heatherwood Hospital, which is GIRFT accredited on Treetops will give you the chance to deliver care you can be proud of! We work closely as a Multi-disciplinary Team and working alongside orthopaedic surgeons. Our team consists of ward-based nurses, healthcare assistants, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapist and Arthroplasty nurse practitioner, and ROMs all striving to provide the highest standards of clinical excellence for our patients.

Once you are settled onto Treetops Orthopaedic Ward there are a number of opportunities available that allow for development and exciting career progression. Our accredited orthopaedic module provides the opportunity to develop your skills further and understanding for  patients who are planned for operations on their hips, knee's and shoulders. 

Main duties of the job

There are plenty of opportunities to develop skills with other nurses new to orthopaedics, being supported in the completion of our ward based orthopaedic competency document. This guides you through your first few months on the ward, ensuring you have the right set of specialist skills to best care for our varied patient group. Learning how to care for patients having elective surgery and everything in between. You will have the opportunity to spend some time in other orthopaedic specialist areas such as theatres, Post Op Clinic whilst becoming competent in delivering high quality care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registration as RGN
  • Current (or pending) NMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Orthopaedic / Surgical Course
  • Mentorship qualification

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Proven teaching and assessing skills.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 6 months of post-registration experience in an Inpatient setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration Acute experience
  • Experience of caring for elderly patients with dementia
