Metastatic Breast Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Band 7

Job overview

We are excited to offer an excellent development opportunity for a highly motivated and compassionate senior Registered Nurse to join our Breast Oncology team as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) specialising in metastatic breast cancer.

This role provides a structured training pathway that includes academic study (typically an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice) and supervised clinical practice, preparing you to become an autonomous, expert practitioner delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

As a trainee ACP you will:

  • Work closely with the metastatic breast cancer team to deliver holistic care to patients living with incurable disease
  • Play a key role in supporting patients and families through complex treatment journeys, palliative care planning and survivorship
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments, support symptom management, and contribute to treatment planning
  • Attend outpatient clinics and multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • Develop your skills in clinical decision-making, independent prescribing and advanced communication

You will be supported though:

  • Fully funded modules in Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Protected clinical supervision and mentorship
  • A development plan aligned with the four pillars of clinical practice:  Clinical Practice, Leadership, Education and Research
  • Opportunities to be involved in service development, audit, and quality improvement

This transformative/innovative role has been funded by Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance (SSCA).

Please note that this is a cross site role for Frimley Park Hospital and The  Parapet located in Windsor. Any successful applicants will be required to work flexibly across both sites.

Main duties of the job

The trainee ACP role is a cutting-edge role in the field of advanced clinical practice which crosses professional boundaries, undertaking traditional medical roles and leading inter-professional practice. It is a role model of excellence in the delivery of holistic care to patients. The ACP will be able to assess and treat the many varied clinical cases; both acute and chronic. The post holder will provide clinical expertise for developing and enhancing the service, demonstrate advanced skills and competencies and ensure that evidence-based practice is inherent in all aspects of care and treatment. The post holder will demonstrate critical thinking in the safe clinical decision-making process and is required to deliver an advanced level of clinical practice within the field of speciality care. Working within local and nationally agreed protocols and guidelines, the ACP demonstrates the knowledge and skills across the Four Pillars of Advanced Practice. The ACP exercises independent judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of patients. The ACP will support service delivery and leadership working alongside colleagues in support of the education and development of both nursing, midwifery, allied health professional (AHP) and medical colleagues.
