Staff Nurse - 22 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 staff nurse to join the Eye Day Case Unit team at St Helier Hospital. The successful candidate will need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated with good communication skills.   Experience desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake all aspects of pre and post op care for all Ophthalmology patients. They will be required to carry out pre-operative assessments including a comprehensive history taking, recording of ophthalmic measurements and following written protocols.

The post holder will ensure provision of and be accountable for, the delivery of an efficient, high quality and caring clinical service across Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, which meets service and client requirements and encompasses a wide range of specialist expertise and client groups.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The working day is from 7 am to 6.30 pm, 2 days a week  as per roster requirements, with some Saturday working. There may be some cross site working within this role. 

The post holder will admit patients for ophthalmic day surgery (majority of procedures carried out under local anaesthetic), will provide post operative instructions, will run post operative telephone consultations, will support with pre-assessment clinics including eye measurements and telephone assessments.
