Job overview
The post holder will play a key role in coordinating the administrative functions of the 62-day cancer pathway, ensuring patients are supported through a timely and efficient diagnostic and treatment journey. Working closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialist team, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care and support the achievement of pathway performance standards. The role involves regular direct contact with patients, requiring a compassionate, professional, and proactive approach to communication throughout their care experience.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a key point of contact for patients, carers and members of the multi-disciplinary team, promoting effective communication across services. They will support patients throughout their pathway by ensuring they are kept informed at all stages of their care in a timely and compassionate manner.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Booking and coordinating patient appointments, including blood tests and diagnostic investigations
- Proactively chasing and tracking appointment dates to support achievement of pathway targets
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient tracking systems and data records
- Liaising with tertiary centres to monitor and track onward referrals
- Working closely with endoscopy, radiology and other diagnostic services to ensure timely progression along the pathway
- Supporting audit activity and contributing to patient satisfaction surveys to improve service delivery
- Assisting with the triage of suspected cancer referrals to ensure all relevant investigations are included
- Supporting the management and triage of the Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) shared email inbox
