We are searching for motivated and enthusiastic Registered Children’s Nurses who are passionate about delivering safe, high quality care to patients and their families with a progressive and innovative mindset for continuous service improvements.

This role is open to newly qualified nurses graduating in September 2026. Please not this a fixed term 1 year maternity cover post.

Main duties of the job

  • We have a unique, caring and inclusive team who are delighted to be responsible for the care of Children and Young People from 5 days to 18 years old, across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.
  • The ward offers a wide range of experience, caring for children and young people with a range of medical and surgical conditions. The ward consists of 26 beds including a 4 bedded Level 1 HDU and designated teenage beds. There is also an 8 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit attached.

    We promote strong interdepartmental and cross-site working relationships with both Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals.

  • Main responsibilities include to provide safe, high quality patient centred care to children & families.

  • Current paediatric experience
  • Aware of research and evidence and implications for practice.
  • Aware of key principles of paediatric care and implications for practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Monitors and contributes to protecting children and young people at risk, providing children who have been abused with support from others. 2
  • Participation in audit activity

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered sick children's nurse(NMC Sub Part 1(Children)/RN Child

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Uses clinical judgement and decision making about nursing care requirements.
  • Assesses, plans, delivers, evaluates and records care with minimal supervision from an experienced practitioner
  • Assists with supporting children, young people, parents and families to cope with changes in health and well being.
  • Reinforces basic information and supports students’ learning of skills and knowledge in clinical practice setting.
