We are seeking an experienced and motivated clinician to join our Neurology team as a Headache and Migraine Clinical Nurse Specialist / Allied Health Professional.
The post holder will be instrumental in the care and service delivery for patients referred to Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust with headache and migraine disorders. This will include undertaking assessments for patients with new diagnoses, providing ongoing management and follow-up care, and delivering specialist advice and guidance to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals.
You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, ensuring patients receive timely, evidence-based, and person-centred treatment. The role also offers opportunities to contribute to service development, education, and quality improvement initiatives within the headache and migraine service.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Nurse Specialist in Headache and Migraine will support and develop the Service under the direction and governance of the Neurology Clinical Lead Consultant and Neurologist with a Special Interest in Headache and Migraine.
To provide expert care for patients with complex headache disorders including chronic migraine, cluster headache, and medication overuse headache.
To lead nurse-led clinics, educate & advise on/prescribe migraine anti-CGRP Medications (including injectable treatments) and the use of Gepants in appropriate cases, in line with local & national guidelines.
To work closely with Consultant Neurologists, Lead Integrated Neurology MDT Manager and the wider MDT to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care that meets the needs of our local community.
 
To support patients with their own health and well-being needs through the provision of appropriate information, education, advice and support and be an expert resource who provides sound clinical advice and judgement to patients and their families/carers, nurses, allied health care professionals and resident doctors.  
 
To assist the Clinical Neurology Lead/Neurologist with Specialist Interest and Lead Integrated Neurology MDT Manager with service development, implementation, monitoring and audit of recommendations made by best practice criteria and Peer Reviews.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC or HSPC registration
 - Evidence of CPD in relevant field
 - Post registration qualification in headache, pain or neurology
 
Desirable criteria
- MSc in Neurology or Pain or working towards
 - Independent Nurse/AHP Prescriber (Non-medical) or working towards this qualification
 
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of current NICE guidelines and evidence-based practice for Headache and Migraine
 - Demonstrates understanding of relevant national strategy / policy and how this relates to Headache and Migraine services
 - Knowledge of key professional issues and NMC/HCPC guidelines and codes, relating to professional practice
 - Advanced clinical assessment skills
 
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of health inequalities and their impact on Headache/Migraine care
 
Special Requirements
Essential criteria
- Full driving licence and access to a car to travel across FHFT sites and Primary Care settings
 
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience at Band 6 or above
 - Evidence of previous relevant clinical experience (postgraduate) in the same or related specialty
 - Evidence of recent clinical experience in Neurology, Headache & Migraine or Pain Management
 
Desirable criteria
- Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
 - Experience in prescribing, monitoring and optimising medication use
