Job overview

We are excited to offer a new opportunity for an experienced and passionate midwife to join Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust as a Pelvic Health Specialist Midwife. This new cross-site role will provide specialist leadership across Frimley Park and Wexham Park Hospitals, supporting the development and delivery of high-quality pelvic health and perineal trauma services.


The successful candidate will act as a clinical expert, educator and advocate for women experiencing childbirth-related perineal trauma and pelvic floor dysfunction. Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, you will lead service development, education, quality improvement and pathway implementation to improve outcomes and ensure consistent standards of care across the Trust.


This is a fixed-term position for 2 years and represents an exciting opportunity to shape and embed a growing specialist service within maternity care.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist clinical leadership for pelvic health and childbirth-related perineal trauma services across Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Support the development and delivery of specialist perineal clinic services and pelvic health pathways. 
  • Deliver expert advice, assessment and support for women affected by obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI) and other pelvic health conditions.
  • Lead and support education, training and competency development for maternity staff across both hospital sites. 
  • Work collaboratively with midwifery, physiotherapy, obstetric, urogynaecology and colorectal teams to improve patient outcomes and experiences. 
  • Contribute to audit, governance, quality improvement and implementation of national pelvic health and maternity safety initiatives.
  • Promote consistent, evidence-based practice and support service development across the maternity service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife currently on NMC register
  • Degree in Midwifery or relevant
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist pelvic health / perineal care course
  • Postgraduate qualification or working towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-registration midwifery experience
  • Experience in managing perineal trauma and OASI
  • Experience supporting staff training and education
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in a perineal clinic setting
  • Experience in audit, governance or service development

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Confident and competent in perineal suturing and care
  • Knowledge of inpatient postnatal issues
  • Completed preceptorship programme
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary working skills
