Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Registered Mental Health Nurse to join Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust as our Lead Nurse – Mental Health, Band 7. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering safe, effective and person-centred care for patients with mental health needs within the acute hospital setting. Working as part of the corporate nursing team, you will provide specialist mental health nursing advice, clinical leadership and operational support, helping staff across the Trust to respond confidently and compassionately to complex mental health presentations.
 
This role offers the opportunity to combine advanced clinical practice with service development, teaching and quality improvement. You will work closely with ward teams, liaison psychiatry, safeguarding teams and system partners to support timely assessment, safe care planning and effective escalation. You will also contribute to the development of mental health nursing practice, support workforce capability, and deputise for the Head of Nursing: Mental Health as required.

As Lead Nurse – Mental Health, you will provide expert mental health assessment, advice and support for patients with acute mental health, behavioural or psychological needs. You will lead on risk assessment, care planning, staff support and escalation, ensuring care is safe, lawful and responsive.

What we are looking for:
You will be a current NMC-registered Registered Mental Health Nurse with significant post-registration experience and a strong understanding of mental health nursing within complex care environments. You will bring specialist knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding, risk management and restrictive practice reduction, alongside the ability to communicate sensitively, lead confidently and work collaboratively across organisational boundaries. Experience of supervision, teaching, service improvement and supporting staff in challenging clinical situations will be essential.
