Job overview
We are pleased to announce the advert for the Maternity Matron position. The Maternity Matron post is specific to supporting the antenatal areas of the maternity service including the antenatal clinic, antenatal ward, triage and antenatal and newborn screening services. The full time post is suitable for a midwife with good experience in the operational line management of clinical maternity areas. The post holder will be responsible for providing midwifery leadership to the clinical areas and will ensure the efficient and effective use of resources and the development & maintenance of the highest standards of care and efficient service delivery.
The post holder will assist the Director and Head of Midwifery in the development and progression of the maternity agenda to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation to drive forward service improvement.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills, meet challenging deadlines and consistently deliver on key performance targets. You will provide clinical and professional leadership to staff in your designated area of responsibility and work collaboratively with Matrons across the Women and Children’s (WACH) Division and members of the WACH triumvirate.
Main duties of the job
The women and child health (WACH) division at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust comprises of a maternity unit, gynaecology inpatient and outpatient services, a level 2 NICU and a paediatric ward. The maternity unit for all of SASH geographical area is based at East Surrey Hospital. Last year, the maternity team cared for around 5,000 women and birthing people, and was the location for around 4,200 births, making it one of the busiest units in the area. The service provides antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, provided by a dedicated team of midwives, support workers, obstetrics, gynaecology and anaesthetic staff.
