Job overview

Children and young people (CYP) up to 18 years of age living with mental health difficulties often present to or accommodated within both paediatric and adult areas of the Trust, including the Emergency Department (ED) and the paediatric ward, whilst receiving medical care and/or awaiting a mental health assessment.

The Trust has seen an increase in the number of children and young people presenting and admitted to paediatric and adult wards, as well as those detained under the Mental Health Act (MHA).

The post holder will provide assessments to children up to 18years and will liaison with external specialist mental health services (including the local Eating Disorder Service, Locality CAMHS Services and the Crisis team). They will also be expected to attend MDT meetings and have regular check in with admitted patients.

This post will play a key role in leading and supporting staff with the management of patients experiencing mental health difficulties and providing expert clinical knowledge in the management of mental health issues for children and young people and their families. This post is crucial in raising awareness and promoting a wider understanding of Mental Health for CYP, requiring an evidence-based approach to education.
