Staff Nurse – Endocrine & Medical Ward (Ward 5)

Ward 5 is a busy 36-bedded Endocrine and Medical ward delivering high-quality, 24-hour nursing care. We are proud of our friendly and supportive team of nurses, healthcare assistants, consultants, doctors, housekeepers and ward hosts/hostesses who work together to provide safe, compassionate and patient-centred care.

As a Staff Nurse, you will assess, plan and deliver evidence-based care for patients with a range of endocrine and complex medical conditions. You will work collaboratively within a strong multi-disciplinary team and support patients and families throughout their hospital journey.

Our dedicated MDT includes a discharge coordinator, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitian and speech & language therapist. We also work closely with specialist teams including diabetes nursing, tissue viability, amputee rehabilitation, vascular and foot care services, ensuring holistic and comprehensive care.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without direct supervision. To work as part of a team of nurses, health care assistants, doctors and multi-disciplinary team e.g. diabetic specialist nurses, OT, PT, TVN, podiatry, etc and be responsible for the assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating of nursing care of our patients.

  • Mentorship course or similar

Experience

  • Some post registration experience
  • Experience of managing patients with chronic medical conditions

  • Experience in caring for Endocrine/Diabetic patients

Skills & Knowledge

  • Self-motivated and uses own initiative
  • Able to work as an effective team member
  • Ability to manage change within the working environment
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult / stressful situations
  • Able to train and supervise Junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • Nurse in charge competency
  • EPIC familiar or IT skills
