Job overview

We are looking to recruit an experienced Health Care Assistant to work Part Time  (22.5 hours per week) at our Wexham Park Hospital site in the Eden Day Unit.

We are looking for compassionate, caring healthcare workers who strive to deliver high quality care to patients.  This will be a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others at Frimley Health Foundation Trust. 

Please note this is a front facing clinical role where a high level of spoken and written English language is required. Please do not use AI software for completion of your application for this role.

You currently must be in the UK and have current experience of working in a UK Healthcare setting as an HCA.  

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Assistant you will work under direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse/Nursing Associate.

The care you give to patients will be compassionate, caring, and high quality. You will recognise your abilities and limitations of your competence and only carry out those tasks for which you are trained.

As a member of the ward team you will support the other staff, act in the best interest of patients and treat everyone with respect. As a Trust employee you will honour your work commitments, be reliable, trustworthy and uphold the values and beliefs of the Trust and the Skills for Health Code of Conduct.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Some of the key tasks include the following:

       Carrying out assigned tasks as part of clinical team in support of Registered Nurses.

       Undertake some aspects of care provision without direct supervision. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of patients. 

       Always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles.

       To assist members of the multi-disciplinary team to maintain patient’s fundamental needs and ensure patient safety.

       To carry out duties in support and under supervision of a registered nurse or Nursing Associate.  

       To participate in direct patient care and other general duties within the clinical area employed.

       To provide support and leadership to care assistants and assist with a range of both clinical and non-clinical duties.

 

To assist with a range of non-clinical duties:

  • Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.
  •  Mentor and support new to care and Health Care Support Workers on the care certificate and to be a ‘buddy’ to any new starters.
  • Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals. 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of general education e.g. GCSE’s or equivalent Functional skills Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy
  • Relevant L3 qualification /apprenticeship in Health care or equivalent qualification in the area of speciality employed (e.g. Medical/Surgery area or Operating Dept. Practice for posts in Theatre)
  • Care Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Health and Social Care Level 3 or equivalent.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working as a healthcare assistant in a hospital or registered care setting
  • Experience of taking clinical observations
  • Customer care experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within speciality area

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of care and related procedures to area
  • Moderate IT skills
  • Ability to undertake venepuncture and/or Cannulation (or willingness to complete competency once in post)
Desirable criteria
  • Associate mentor course to support learners
