Job overview

The post holder is responsible for the leadership and management of nursing services within the Sexual Health services. This role involves providing specialist clinical leadership, developing and managing nursing services, and working in partnership with external agencies across various healthcare settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert clinical leadership and support to the Sexual Health services.

Develop and manage nursing services, ensuring compliance with local, regional, and national quality standards.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the leadership and management of nursing services within the Sexual Health services.

The post holder is required to provide specialist clinical leadership, nursing service development and management to the Sexual Health services.

The post holder will work in partnership with external agencies, including charitable and independent sectors across a variety of health care settings.

The post holder is required to be a clinical leader and expert in the designated specialty providing both expert clinical support, and supervision, guidance and support for the nursing teams and wider multidisciplinary teams who care for patients, families and carers. 

The post holder will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring that the service meets local, regional and national quality standards, including nursing service metrics. 

The post holder will support the Deputy Head of Nursing Specialist Community Services to develop and deliver the metrics required by the service and lead operational change to ensure there is a sound academic and evidence base for the specialty.  

The post holder will provide leadership and direction to the nursing workforce within the Sexual Health services., and in collaboration ensure that nursing staff comply with SBUHB standards and take the appropriate corrective action where required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Matron is responsible for defined clinical areas within a Division. The quality of the Health Boards clinical care and the safety of its patients are fundamental to its excellence and the Matron is responsible for ensuring the consistent delivery of evidence based, safe and effective nursing, infection prevention, safeguarding and patient flow standards within their defined area of responsibility. The role will provide direct leadership to ensure that the ward managers are able to implement the nursing and quality strategy and person-centred approaches to care, to deliver a nursing service that prioritise the care needs of patients and their families to enable a positive experience for patients and their families/cares. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of ward managers within their areas of responsibility in line with the Health Board’s values and behaviour framework of caring for each other, working together and always improving.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Level 1 (Active NMC Registration) Educated to Degree level
  • Masters in relevant health related subject
  • Recognised management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults/Children including the Mental Health Act and Mental
  • Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty/Safeguards
  • Knowledge of quality and service improvement methodologies and understanding of current policy and issues in professional pratice, complaince, standards and the wider NHS
Desirable criteria
