Job overview

If you’re passionate about solving patient problems, if you can work under extreme pressure, and if you want to further your nursing career…. then maybe you should join our expanding ED Team.

The vacancy offers the opportunity to be part of a growing vibrant team, providing effective emergency medicine to the people of Gateshead and surrounding area, working to bring about dynamic change in the way patients requiring emergency care are managed.

Our department presently has a 4 bedded (expandable to 8) Resus pod with a dedicated paediatric resus bay. We have recently expanded to 3 eight room monitored majors’ pods, 2 Triage rooms to assess walk in patients.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for highly motivated nurses who can work under extreme pressure without compromise to patient care. You should have an ability to nurse under prolonged stressful situations with the support of a large multi-disciplinary team around you.

Interested individuals must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be organised, hardworking, and have a commitment to CPD with a willingness to undertake A&E specific training and undertake as mandatory the RCN level 1 Emergency Nurse competencies within 12 months.

There is an expectation that if appointed the post holder(s) should be willing to work day and night shifts as well as regular weekends.

Working for our organisation

Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

Established in 2005, we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and since then have consistently achieved the highest levels of care for patients.

We now employ around 4,800 staff and currently provide 444 hospital beds across the Gateshead region.

Our values should be the ‘golden thread’ which runs through everything we do – they are the core of who we are. Our five values can easily be remembered by the simple acronym ICORE; Innovation, Care, Openness, Respect, Engagement.

We have a number of staff networks including the BAME network, D-Ability network, LGBTQ+ Network and the Women’s Network, to challenge us and help us to constantly improve. Our armed forces network is one of our emerging networks.

The health and wellbeing of our staff is one of our highest priorities, and we offer a range of support and initiatives as part of our ‘Balance’ programme balancegateshead.com to cater for our diverse workforce, so that your individual needs can be supported, allowing you a happy and healthy working experience with us.
