Labour Ward Triage Manager

NHS AfC: Band 7

Job overview

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and dynamic midwife to lead our Labour Ward Triage service. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about delivering safe, effective, and timely maternity care within a fast-paced clinical environment.

The post holder will demonstrate expert clinical knowledge and leadership within maternity triage services, supporting the implementation and delivery of the National Maternity Triage Specification. The role will be responsible for assisting with the education and training of all qualified maternity staff in the Birmingham Symptom Specific Obstetric Triage System (BSOTS) pathway, ensuring a consistent and standardised approach to maternity triage across the unit.

This evidence-based approach provides an intuitive and structured method of clinical risk assessment, promoting patient safety, improving patient flow, and ensuring women receive care according to clinical urgency. The triage process will also provide an opportunity to appropriately assess, risk stratify, and signpost suitable women to the Midwifery-Led Birth Centre, supporting informed choice and the effective utilisation of maternity services.
