Pain Specialist Nurse

Job overview

As a high-profile practitioner working as part of the inpatient acute pain team and chronic pain outpatient service providing high quality pain management across the Trust. In this role, the practitioner will contribute to the provision of specialist pain advice, clinical; support and education for all clinical staff.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP. 

Main duties of the job

The practitioner will be able to make informed decisions within the speciality and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards, targets and objectives are met. They will work collaboratively within the acute pain team to meet the needs of patients and play a role in service delivery and adherence to policies and procedures

The successful candidate will work equally between the inpatient Acute Pain Service at University Hospital Coventry and the Chronic Pain Treatment Clinics at Willow Unit in Rugby St Cross Hospital. The clinic involves delivery of chronic pain specialist treatments such as lignocaine infusions and trigger point injections. These clinics are consultant led and the nursing role is developing to meet service needs

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute towards corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
  • Developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations.
  • A resource for staff on pain management , advising on Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
  • Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes.
  • Initiate relevant treatment plans for patients requiring intervention including management of techniques employed for pain control
  • Promote and deliver evidence-based care for patients referred to the acute pain team
  • Assist with education and training provision of clinical staff, patients and carers in relation to pain control and analgesia techniques.
  • Responsible for accurate, timely documentation of clinical plan in patients’ on EPR system used in the TRUST
  • Utilise and ensure others utilise information and IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data available.
  • Identify and implement, in collaboration with the multi-professional team, appropriate areas for research and audit.
