Job overview

We have an opportunity for a Registered Mental Health Practitioner to join the EIP Team.

This role will involve working in the East of the County

Main duties of the job

The Early Intervention in Psychosis Team is located within the Adult Community Mental Health Division and our mission is to provide high quality, evidence-based psychological services to adults who live in Lincolnshire and are experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

The post will involve liaison with other professions within the mental health service, including Mental Health Nurses, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists, Assistant and Trainee Clinical Psychologists, Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners, Support Workers, Peer Support Workers and outside agencies. 

The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of care needs, assessment, planning, and implementation of evidence based care to a defined group of service users and their carers within the service catchment area whilst under the guidance of senior staff. The post holder will provide professional advice and support to other agencies and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Carry out relevant risk assessments and risk management with the multi-disciplinary team 

Engage calmly and with sensitivity and empathy to support service users in highly distressing or emotional circumstances. 

Engage with and gather information from service users, relatives and patient records to develop a formulation.

To work in collaboration with the individual service user and their family and carers as appropriate to develop care plans that are focused on strengths and are outcome based.

To attend multi-disciplinary reviews and act as a care co-ordinator, for a caseload of service users in order to support and monitor progress during the course of multi-disciplinary interventions.  

To set collaborative goals for intervention with service users 

To deliver specified wellbeing-focused psychologically-informed interventions, in line with best available evidence, under close supervision from a clinical psychologist or CBT therapist including:
•    Behavioural activation and graded exposure
•    Teaching problem-solving skills
•    Improving sleep
•    Recognising and managing emotions
•    Guided self-help for bulimia and binge-eating
•    Building confidence
•    Medication support

To be responsive to service users’ needs and choices; and uphold their right to be treated with dignity and respect.

To include carers and families in line with the service user’s wishes.

To liaise with other health and care providers, including third sector agencies and primary care, to ensure continuity of care for service users. 

To communicate information concerning the assessment, formulation and care plans of service users in a skilled and sensitive manner in order to promote effective multi-disciplinary working and therapeutic outcomes for clients.

To develop collaborative plans for relapse prevention

To deal with endings appropriately and safely with service users, families and carers.

To maintain own continuing professionals development and use reflective practice to evaluate and update current practice.

Demonstrate support for the values and beliefs of the Trust working in a trauma informed way, promoting social inclusion and challenging stigma.

Demonstrate an understanding of the practices of Human Rights in the delivery of this role.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RMN, OT or Social Worker core professional background education to diploma/degree level
  • Professional registration with NMC, HCPC or other relevant regulator
  • Mentorship Module or equivalent (degree level)
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training (degree level) in clinical practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Management training
  • Leadership training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial post registration experience of working with people with complex mental and social health presentations involving psychosis
  • Experience of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience of using psychological formulation to identify intervention targets
  • Substantial experience in identification, assessment and management of risk
  • Substantial experience of delivering psychosocial interventions to aid recovery
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within EIP services
  • Experience of EIP specialist assessment and interventions

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of national agenda for mental health
  • Understanding of the culture and ethos of EIP services
  • Highly developed clinical reasoning skills and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work and contain with high levels of distress
  • Sound knowledge of and understanding of Information Governance principles.
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Motivated to maintain personal and professional development with strong CPD record
  • Delegation whilst maintaining overall responsibility for patients care, where appropriate with the ability to lead colleagues and peers .
  • Highly motivated & able to engage with service users & carers to improve outcomes
  • Ability to work independently and collectively.
