Main duties of the job

Are you a qualified nurse with an interest in stroke rehabilitation. If so come and join our team.

Felix Holt is a 19 bedded stroke rehabilitation unit based at the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton and works closely with Feldon Ward at Leamington Hospital. It is part of the Stroke Patient Pathway.

We provide specialist rehabilitation to those patients from Coventry and Warwickshire who require more intensive support after the early acute phase of their stroke and are medically not ready to return to their home setting.

Within the unit patients will be under the care of the Stroke Consultant and will receive specialist assessment and treatment from ward-based nurses and therapists based on their specific clinical needs. The team includes Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Speech & Language Therapists, Dieticians and Clinical Psychologists.

Rehabilitation as an inpatient will continue while there remain nursing and medical needs that cannot be provided at home.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Responsible for the assessment, planning implementation and evaluation of nursing care for a specified group of patients as delegated by senior nursing staff, involving patients and carers where appropriate.
  • Acts as a team leader, delegating appropriate tasks and supervising the standard of care delivered by unqualified staff and learner nurses in the ward team.
  • Deliver a high standard of nursing care without direct supervision, based upon a sound evidence base.
  • Undertakes and documents a comprehensive, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of the physical, social and spiritual needs of the patient where appropriate.
  • Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care.
  • Manage a group of patients throughout a shift as delegated by nurse in charge.
