Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks

Many of the roles we advertise have a requirement for a DBS check to be carried out. If you are successful for a role and it requires a DBS check the Trust will carry out the initial check and subscription to the DBS Update Service, however successful candidates will be expected to cover the associated costs . Details of this will be sent to successful candidates in their offer letter.

Probationary Period

All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 3 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working

All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. However, occasionally travel around Warwickshire and into your base will be required so access to your own transport would be helpful.

The Trust also welcome staff to work flexibly and we would welcome the conversation at interview regarding flexible working.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Education Simulation Team. An enthusiastic, motivated Band 6 Registered Practitioner to work in simulation required.

The successful candidate will have a comprehensive induction programme, being taught Human Factors Theory and debriefing skills. They will devise and deliver simulation and practical skills to clinical staff, students and multiagency partners in the skills lab, simulation rooms and occasionally via technology (Teams/Virtual Reality.)

The successful candidate will be an experienced registered practitioner who has supervised and assessed learners/junior staff in practice. They will be clinically competent, with relevant clinical knowledge of skills taught. Preferably having undertaken training including ILS/ALS. Ideally, they will have a teaching qualification/post graduate certificate or willingness to work towards this. To remain clinically relevant, they will undertake clinical supernumerary visits.

You must be committed to delivering teaching, ensuring staff develop skills needed to provide quality patient care adhering to Trust values. The post holder will be supported to undertake a quality improvement or similar projects in simulation and clinical skills if appropriate. 

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the simulation team within learning and development to design, co-ordinate, promote, facilitate and support the delivery of simulation and practical skills to clinical staff, students and multiagency partners.

To work as part of the simulation team to develop and implement training opportunities encompassing human factors, low and hi-fidelity simulation and practical procedures virtually, in a classroom or in-situ.

To occasionally act as an assessor at under/postgraduate practical exams in order to promote evidence-based practice in the use of practical procedures to staff and students to ensure quality care is delivered to patients across the Trust.

To deputise for the Associate Lead Clinical Simulation in relevant meetings within the Trust and with local multiagency partners (e.g. universities) as needed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To initiate, design and deliver simulation educational programmes for staff, students and multiagency partners in to ensure that effective evidence-based practice is developed to maximise outcomes for patients. To deliver these virtually, in a classroom or in situ.

To undertake relevant clinical activities to maintain own clinical competency and to support staff in developing clinical practice. To providing on-going evidence of eligibility to practice.

To maintain a professional attitude, role modelling compassionate leadership while developing the role of Simulation Facilitator in the best interests of the patients we serve and in accordance with the NMC/HCPC Code of professional conduct.

To promote individual’s equality, diversity and rights in accessing high-quality care.

Professional / Clinical Responsibilities:

In conjunction with learning and development, facilitate learning opportunities to meet the educational and skills development needs of Trust staff and students in relation to simulation, according to individual needs and service requirements.

To work with the Associate Lead Clinical Simulation to develop and implement training opportunities encompassing human factors, practical procedures, low and hi-fidelity simulation and virtually, in a classroom or in-situ.

To ensure procedures taught are in accordance with Trust polices and to work with relevant Trust staff to review and participate in the development of relevant policies and procedures, care pathways, protocols and guidelines to ensure up to date evidence-based practice.

To ensure evidence-based practice is utilised at all times to provide high standards of teaching to support high standards of care.

To develop own knowledge of human factors and debriefing and to work with the Associate Lead Clinical Simulation to develop and deliver training relating to human factors and debriefing to others.

To participate in clinical audit research and quality improvement initiatives.

To occasionally perform as an assessor in relevant undergraduate and postgraduate simulation and clinical skills examinations held off site at universities/multiagency partners.

Working alongside the learning and development team, support the development and implementation of the Trust’s preceptorship programmes for newly appointed staff.

Contribute to monitoring the quality of teaching provided and adapt teaching based upon feedback received

To maintain confidentiality as a priority, in all areas of work, within professional boundaries as directed and expected within the multi-disciplinary team.

To establish effective communication and good working relationships with multi professional and multi-agency colleagues within the Trust to support effective service delivery.

Develop own and others knowledge and practice across professional and organisational boundaries.

Work supernumerary shifts in teams across the Trust to understand learner’s needs and to update and maintain professional knowledge.

To be aware of own learning needs and limitations and to maintain professional expertise by embracing the concept of lifelong learning.

To organise, facilitate and participate in multi-agency/disciplinary meetings.

To work with the wider learning and development team in a collaborative and cohesive manner to support a coordinated approach to professional development.

Working alongside the Associate Lead Clinical Simulation to ensure that learning from local serious incidents clinical incidents and national patient safety alerts are built into future simulation programmes.

Line management responsibilities

 Act as a clinical role model for effective clinical care enabling and facilitating others to take forward initiatives.

To provide clinical supervision and support to staff and carry out personal development reviews of allocated members of staff.

Participation in the development and delivery of induction, training, competencies and mentorship programmes of students and staff as required.

To work alongside Associate Lead Clinical Simulation to support the operational running of the simulation team (e.g. Sickness management, return to work interviews etc.).

Maximise opportunities to share good practice and innovations with colleagues by networking and work collaboratively with simulation and clinical education teams both locally and nationally.

To deputise for the Associate Lead Clinical Simulation in relevant meetings within the Trust and with local multiagency partners (e.g. universities) as needed.

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate certificate or intent to work towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have experience of working as a health care professional.
  • Must be clinically competent and have underpinning knowledge of the following skills; vital sign assessment and interpretation, urinalysis
