Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks
Many of the roles we advertise have a requirement for a DBS check to be carried out. If you are successful for a role and it requires a DBS check the Trust will carry out the initial check and subscription to the DBS Update Service, however successful candidates will be expected to cover the associated costs . Details of this will be sent to successful candidates in their offer letter.
Probationary Period
All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working
All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. However, occasionally travel around Warwickshire and into your base will be required so access to your own transport would be helpful.
The Trust also welcome staff to work flexibly and we would welcome the conversation at interview regarding flexible working.

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen on Greville Ward, a 22 bedded trauma orthopaedic ward. We are offering a full-time – Band 5 RN post to join the well-established, friendly trauma orthopaedic team.
As a MDT we pride ourselves on providing a high standard of care to all patients. We strive to achieve the Best Practice Tariff for patients with a Fractured Neck of Femur and work closely with the Ortho-geriatric team to ensure continuity of care. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated dynamic nurse preferably with 1 year Band 5 experience in Orthopaedics.
To be successful you will need to be able to lead and motivate a team, use initiative to problem solve in addition to supporting and developing other staff members and student nurses. You will need to demonstrate recent Continuing Professional Development, and innovations in practice. Applicants will be able to demonstrate their ability to provide compassionate care along with excellent clinical skills.
Main duties of the job
To perform a pivotal role within the ward team, providing care for pre and post-operative trauma & orthopaedic patients.
To be responsible for the assessment of care needs.
Plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
Provide documentary evidence of services delivered
Management of the ward adhering to the policies of the Trust.
To support the band 7 & band 6.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
SUMMARY OF KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY.
CLINICAL.
Lead a team of nurses in the delivery of high standard of care to a group of clients.
Undertake accurate patient assessments and engages patients and carers as partners in care planning, delivery and evaluation.
Utilise and complete all patient assessments / tools in line with all hospital policies and procedures.
Maintain patient records and adheres to the NMC and trust guidelines for record
Monitor and maintain a high standard of care throughout the whole of the ward.
Identify and act upon any weaknesses that are evident in the delivery of care.
Maximises clinical performance through implementation of trust policies, ie:
Bed management,
Utilise discharge policies to facilitate effective discharge planning,
Contribute to the review and updating of local standards, policies procedures, protocols and guidelines.
MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP.
Act as a role model and perform the role of supervisor/assessor to student nurses, and Care Certificate candidates, and preceptor to newly qualified staff.
Identify training needs for self, ensuring that they are included in the ward-training plan.
Participate in annual performance review, personal development planning and portfolio building.
Participates in the appraisal of junior staff, development of their PDP offering advice and support as appropriate.
Deputise for ward manager as required.
Assist in effective recruitment and retention strategies.
Develop and maintain effective communication with all health professions, internally and externally.
Respond to complaints in a positive and timely manner.
Maintains confidentiality as per NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
Identify, report and act upon discrepancies between skill mix and workload within own clinical area.
Contributes to maintaining a balanced budget by utilising resource management effectively.
EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT.
Assist in the delivery of training programmes, to peers and junior staff that meet ward needs.
Supervise learners including the setting of action plans as appropriate.
Assist in implementing improvements in professional practise by responding positively to change.
In collaboration with senior staff, participate in the development of the team, and its individual members.
Undertake the role of Link nurse in one area of Clinical governance e.g Tissue viability, pain.
HEALTH AND SAFETY.
Implement all health and safety statutory requirements, and trust risk managements strategies.
Adhere to all trust policies and procedures.
Identify and report all clinical incidents ensuring accurate and timely completion of trust incident forms.
Adhere to all issues relating to infection control policies and procedures.
Attend all mandatory study training.
Ensure ward environment is clean, tidy and equipment used is in good working order at all times.
Monitor and supervise staff in safe moving & handling of patients and loads.
