Job overview

We have a great nursing opportunity within Wealden Neighbourhood Mental Health Team Specialist Older Adults Service which includes our Intensive Support Practitioners team for a Band 7 Senior Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. 

The role which will be a key part of our multi-disciplinary service for older adults with mental health problems, including Dementia.  This post will develop your clinical leadership skills and knowledge while maintaining your hands-on skillsThe emphasis of this role is on promoting clinical expertise and teaching, whilst being a key member of the leadership team.    

You will need to be caring, compassionate and a good communicator, with a commitment to improving the lives of our service users a through creative, evidence based practice. You will need to be keen to embrace new ways of working and enthusiastic about improving clinical practice in line with the latest research and organisational learning.  

This post is based at Millwood, Uckfield Hospital 

There will be travel across the geographical area covered by the team, the ability to travel to remote areas is essential. 

The post is 37.5 hours per week.  Extended hours and weekend working when required.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the job are: 

  • Provide clinical leadership within the service and develop and participate in the delivery of a supervision structure for team members.   
  • Monitor and support the team in caseload management and practice. 

  • Manage a caseload of clients with complex mental health needs and undertake case management/lead professional/ CPA as needed.  

  • Manage and supervise members of the team, chair meetings and provide cover for the Team Lead as needed. 

  • Support the recruitment and induction process for new team members. 

  • Support registered staff and students through preceptorship/ mentorship.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) appropriate to the job role
  • Degree/diploma level supplemented by specialist qualification, training, experience, courses to masters level equivalent relevant to the care group
  • Evidence of post registration training in relevant service area
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post qualifying experience in relevant service area
  • Experience of supervising staff and students
  • Able to manage a caseload of patients with complex mental health needs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of interventions specific to service area
  • Awareness of Trust policies and service specification
